Before you take off running towards that sandy wonderland in full on summer bliss mode, make sure you have these must have beach essentials by your side.
1. Sunscreen
Just a quick reminder - remember to pack your sunscreen when you head out to the beach! It's one of the most vital things you can do to keep your skin safe from harmful UVA and UVB rays, and to prevent sunburn. Also, make sure you take the time to read the directions and apply it properly, as you might need to reapply it from time to time to get the best protection.
2. A Hat
Did you know that hats can be your best friend when it comes to shielding your eyes from the sun? If you're a baseball cap kind of person, go for it! That style is amazing for covering the crown of your head, forehead, and eyes. But if you want more protection, give sun hats a try. These hats have wider brims that keep the sun away from your ears, face, and neck, and also help reduce the glare shining on the sand. Plus, they have a bonus feature: you can comfortably tuck your hair up in them, so you won't have to worry about any windy hair disasters while enjoying the beach.
3. Sunglasses
If you're planning to step outside in the sun, don't forget to grab a pair of sunglasses! They're a great way to protect your precious eyes from harmful UV rays. Just remember to look for ones that offer UV400 protection or claim to provide 100% protection. Oh, and here's a little tip: the bigger the sunglasses, the better! Bigger frames and lenses mean a larger area of protection for your eyes and face.
4. Lip Balm
When you step out into that beautiful sunshine, be sure to put on some lip balm to keep your lips soft and protected. If you go for one with SPF, you'll get even more protection. Not only will this keep your lips nourished, but it'll also shield them from salty air and windy ocean breezes. Plus, the tropical flavors will really get you in the beachy feels! So keep your pout happy and healthy with a swipe of balm before you head out!
5. Sandals
Don't forget those sandals! Wearing a more open designed shoe allows for moisture to dry more quicky and keeps it from suffocating your feet in the heat. Flip flops work as well. Having something across the bottom of your feet will help keep them from burning on the hot, sunny sand and also help protect them in case there is some type of debris (i.e., trash, glass, or jellyfish that may have washed up on shore) you could possibly get injured from. A little tip though, if you take them off cover them with an umbrella, towel, beach bag, or anything so that way they are not out in the sun. It will cause them to heat up and you get burned putting them on.
6. A Towel
Want to know the secret to staying cool on the beach? Bring your trusty beach towels! Not only are they perfect for drying off and lounging on, but you can also use them to create some shade by draping them over your head and shoulders. Plus, if the sun starts to get too hot, just soak your towel in the ocean, wring it out a bit, and place it on the back of your neck, ears, or feet for an instant cool-down. Give it a dunk whenever you need a refresher – it's that easy!
7. A Bottle of Water
The sun can be super draining, so it's really important to stay hydrated when you're out and about. Make sure you toss some water in your beach bag just in case you start to feel a little parched. Trust us - you don't want to wait until it's too late! Take sips here and there throughout your beach day to keep your hydration levels up. It's really easy to get overheated and dehydrated without even realizing it. To avoid this, it's a good idea to balance your time in the sun with a little bit of shade. This way you can enjoy your beach stay longer.
8. Beach Tote Bag
Grab your tote bag! You gotta have something to toss in your favorite beach must-haves. Don't forget to grab a beach bag that dries quickly, can be tossed in the washing machine, and can accommodate all of your essentials.
